Mary Borshard was born in Hamilton Scotland. She moved to Amelia Island many years ago from New Jersey.
When her three children were grown, she took a watercolor class and that started her love of painting. Although she considers herself self-taught, she continually takes advantage of art workshops. For years, Mary taught and many local artists attribute their love of watercolor to her.
Among other organizations, Mary is a member of the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Society, National Women of the Arts, The Florida Watercolor Society, the Jacksonville Watercolor Society and the local Island Art Association.
In July of 2009, Mary was accepted into the Florida Watercolor Society for the third time making her a signature member.
Mary primarily works in watercolor but enjoys doing collage. She considers her watercolors impressionistic and most of her collages abstract. Her favorite subjects are flowers, landscapes and seascapes. A multiple award winner in many art shows, she is represented in Amelia Island at the Waterwheel Art Gallery and the Island Art Association Co-Op Gallery.
Mary makes this statement, "I paint because I must paint. The purpose is to have the viewer experience the mystical, magical world of watercolor. Every painting is a new challenge - exciting, capricious, scary and wonderful all at the same time. Art is a never-ending joyous journey".
