Marlene Deutcher
Marlene Deutcher was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.  She has been an artist for over thirty years and studied art in both Canada and in the United States.  Each has influenced her life and feelings for her work in its own special way.

Marlene studied art at L’ecole des beaux Arts of The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.  She spent one year at the University of Miami studying drawing and painting.  She returned to Montreal to continue her art education at Sir George William University Art Department.  She also studied at the Saidye Bronfman Centre and in Pointe Claire, Québec, she attended Conccordia University and participated in Stewart Hall Cultural Center courses and exhibits.

Marlene has participated in many varied workshops with artists both of the area and elsewhere.  She is a member of the Island Art Association, The Jacksonville Watercolor Society, Northside Storytelling League, Jacksonville Museum of Contemporary Art, and participates in an artists study drawing workshop with other local artist.  Marlene is a mixed media, emotional painter, favoring watercolors, acrylics, and enamel paint.  She feels collage and three dimensional have been fun and expressive and monotypes have changed her attitude towards colors and shapes.  Her work encompasses a variety of subject matter including pirates, delightful children, cats and women.  She identifies with all the emotional facts and feeling of women and her “ladies of the night” are special.  She is trying to achieve the greatest emotion through line and feels that one line or “squiggle” can suggest one’s true emotion.

Marlene is currently the Children’s Specialist of all three Nassau County Libraries.  She also does outreaches for the county, and has influenced many children to have a true love and respect for art.  She is represented by the Waterwheel Art Gallery on Amelia Island.
