Joan Murphy
Joan Murphy was born in New York, grew up in the Deep South and lived in california for a number of years.  In 1993 she relocated to Florida.  Her studio is on Amelia Island, just north of Jacksonville, Florida.

Her work is currently being shown at The Waterwheel Art Gallery, Amelia Island, Florida.  It can also be seen at Anderson Fine Art Gallery, St. Simons Island, Georgia.

She began her career in the field of fashion art but turned to painting full time in the early 70's.  She was with the Artists Cooperative in San Faransisco and had several one-person shows there.  In 1973 she also had a one-person show at The Nut Tree, Vacaville, CA.  She was with Zantman Galleries, Carmel, Palm Desert and Sna Fransisco, CA  from 1974 to 1993.

Her work has enjoyed ever-increasing popularity and excellent critical acceptance since that time.  Her collectors eagerly await her shows.

Joan Murphy's paintings are an invitation to enjoy a few tranquil hours on a terrace or a sun-dappled patio.  The indoor-outdoor life of California, Florida and sunny Mediterranean climes provide her favorite settings, always with lush vegitation and brilliant flowers.  Though the themes of her paintings are decidedly contemporary, the influence of the Impressionists can be discerned in the artist's masterful use of light and color.

Since her move to Florida she has discovered her focus turning more and more toward landscapes, particularly the beautiful coastal marshes and beaches.
